I Believe The Children Are Our Future

The greatest love of all was my Granddad’s favourite song.

He was one of 14 children, had 5 children of his own and then raised me and my 3 sisters when I was removed from my mum and dads care at 5 years of age.

Every time he heard this song he pulled out his hanky and wiped away a tear! He’s no longer with us but this song constantly reminds me of him and just how brilliant he was.

He lived and breathed these lyrics, literally doing everything he could to nurture kids and give them the best possible chance at becoming amazing adults.

I feel really strongly about these lyrics too. I had it instilled in me that children are our future and that we should teach them well and let them lead the way.

In Skelmersdale it couldn’t be more true that we need to give them a sense of pride too!

It’s my mission in 2020 to speak to EVERY primary and secondary school in Skelmersdale about littering and the environment.

I’ve already spoken to Mr Roscoe of St Thomas The Martyr, Mr Eaton of Cobbs Brow & tomorrow I’ll be sitting down with Mrs Taberner of Woodlands.

I want schools litter picking, having assemblies about anti-littering, sending newsletters home about the local environment etc. A generational change is needed and I am 100% committed to spearheading that campaign with our kids.

There’s so much to do this year that i’d appreciate your help getting me into the schools. If you could speak to your child’s head about Skem First and the possibility of me sitting down with them to discuss the amazing things we are doing, I’d be really grateful. I’ll keep plodding along, making calls and sending emails but if you could help me speed up the process, that would be AMAZING.
