For the last three years James Upjohn has been at the forefront of promoting what Skelmersdale has to offer and has been a major force in instilling a sense of community that has long been lacking in our town.

Though James is not originally from Skelmersdale, or indeed the North West he has embraced our Town with a passion that is infectious and inspiring.

James created Skem First – a Facebook group that currently has almost 6,000 members that brings people, businesses and community groups together. Without James – many people would not be aware of just how many brilliant private businesses and community projects we have in our town.

He has organised many community projects such as litter picks with local schools and the highly successful Christmas Cars that were seen in almost every street in Skelmersdale, bringing a smile to thousands of children and adults alike.

If you live in Ashurst then there is no better ambassador to have. A man who is passionate and fiercely proud of his local community and who wants to see it thrive and be the best that it can be.
I have never met a man more committed, or more passionate about our town and though I don’t live in Ashurst I am very pleased that James is standing as Independent Councillor.

He is the type of Councillor that every ward in Skelmersdale deserves to have.

I’ve lived in Skem and in Ashurst literally my whole life, so that’s now 41 years, and in all honesty I’ve never known of or seen my local councillor before.
I’ve had the odd leaflet come election time, but still the candidates weren’t people I had seen or heard of over the years.

James however, does live in Ashurst, and despite not living here all his life, his love of Skem as a town is so obvious.
He actively engages with residents, as he genuinely wants Skem to be given the attention other towns have.
I’ve seen a massive difference already in Skem, and Ashurst in particular since James has been around, so for me it’s a no brainer…

I will vote for someone who campaigns for a better Skem, for himself, his family, his friends and the whole community…

Nothing is ever too much trouble for James. If he doesn’t know the answer, he’ll do all he can to find out and let us know. He’s always very polite and friendly and has a great sense of humour too. I’ll definitely be voting for James, he has done a lot to help our business and to help the community too. You should vote for James too, he’ll make a great councillor for Ashurst.

James is always running around the town doing stuff for other people. He did Christmas Cars, Easter events, Halloween events, quizzes, artwork competitions and loads more stuff to try to cheer everyone up. It’s great to see someone that cares so much about our community. I am definitely voting for James and telling everyone else to do the same.

James Upjohn works tirelessly for the local community of Ashurst, and for the wider community of Skelmersdale. Ask anyone who knows him they will tell you how committed he is to his adopted town.

We need more councillors with the right attitude to changing the town for the better. Working together with the relevant authorities and bringing community’s together. Organising community events like Christmas cars the online VE day celebrations.

Most importantly James listens to people and what they need then gets stuck in and helps if he can and figures out where to get help if he can’t do it himself. He’s not affiliated to any political party so no passing the buck or blaming the other side. Im voting for James Upjohn on the 6th of May.

I am voting for James because he cares for the local community, and genuinely has the best interest of our local area. He looks at ways of working with the local community to improve our home town. He’s quick at getting back to you when you ask questions about our town and is always open to looking for solutions to improve it. He’s always out in the community with warm friendly words, and during the pandemic has took to virtual ways to support those locally during the national pandemic. This is why he gets my vote

I have lived in Ashurst since 1988. In these past few months James has organised and managed to get more things done around this area than I can ever remember. Its lovely to see everyone come together as a team and to see people take pride and care for their community. This is thanks to James for all his hard work, time and compassion and his love for Ashurst. We can all take pride in our home town. James has my Vote. Lorraine

Three years ago Ashurst became the luckiest ward in Skelmersdale – why, because James Upjohn moved from Upholland to Ashurst and the residents have not looked back.

He has done so much for us, from getting people involved in litter picking including the children. He did this by visiting schools talking to the staff and pupils to get them organised at weekends. That was just the start.

James has been round all our beauty spots, delphs, coughs – got involved with the children’s play area, organised quizzes, competitions, Halloween projects, Easter egg hunts, and a beautiful Christmas lit cars which went to all the estates over Skelmersdale playing Christmas music and delighting young and old in this very worrying year.

You can guarantee that if you have a problem no matter how large or small he will give it 110% of his attention to get it sorted
I have lived in Ashurst for 40 years and never once had a candidate knock at my door to introduce themselves – that’s the difference with James, during the past 12 months he has called on many people to make sure they are ok (including me) to get any shopping, prescriptions or just have a chat

So be sure that on the 6th May you vote for James Upjohn and guarantee that whatever the needs you want for Ashhurst will get done by someone who really cares for community and will do whatever he can to sort out the issues.
At last we have a voice for Ashhurst from someone who loves and cares for us.

So on the 6th May
VOTE FOR JAMES UPJOHN

I’ve known James for about 18 months, he is so approachable he’s very hands on he gets things done. He’s done a fantastic job out and about not just round Ashurst but the whole of Skelmersdale.
James did a fantastic job with the Christmas cars along with the others which everyone enjoyed, he’s brought people together helping out etc in these difficult times.

James will get my vote this year as he gets to know people personally which is what we want in the community.
Keep up the great work James as your a super star.

I will be voting for James. Since joining the FB site I have read all the things he has helped do for the community and not a thing seems too much trouble. In all the years I have lived here I have never come across such genuine concern to put right all the wrongs. However the icing on the cake was the Christmas cars. With all the misery of Covid and lockdown what a way to put a smile back on people’s faces and none of them asked for a penny. So well done and the best of luck James

James Upjohn has amply demonstrated that he would undoubtedly be the perfect local Independent Councillor for Ashurst. He has pledged to speak up on our behalf to improve and transform Ashurst into a really desirable place to live. His boundless energy, exceptional generosity of spirit and his conscientious determination to follow through on the many issues concerning the area make James Upjohn an ideal candidate for Councillor who deserves our vote from which we would all greatly benefit.

Well, if you’re unsure about who to vote for, then I would suggest you look at the testimonials and go round Ashurst to ask about James. You need to consider that he had no axe to grind and no party allegiances to stick to. Why does James do what he does? Quite simply he cares about his community, our area and all the residents without trying to point score. Community, being respectful and creating cohesion not division are main messages here.

Whether it’s Christmas Cars, clean ups or just trying to make a nice place nicer, James clearly wants a nicer place for us our children and the future generations. His main focus is about us as Ashurst rather than playing national politics in local areas. We need councillors who are pro active and not reactive.
