Children’s Playgrounds

Last summer I spent the 48 hours driving the length and breadth of Skelmersdale to find out where all the FREE and PUBLIC skate parks, children’s play areas & football / basketball courts were.

I’ve put together a map after discovering there was no such resource anywhere online. I’ve been to each one and taken pictures, which you can view on the map.

There’s 22 of them dotted around Skem. A couple of fantastic ones, plenty of ok ones and a few that aren’t really fit for purpose.

I’ve been to them all because I wanted to see, for myself, which are the best parks to take my three young children to. I also wanted to see which parks are in a good state of repair and if any areas of Skelmersdale are missing out on these facilities. You’ll see from the map that some areas have very few, if any at all. This is a crying shame because I believe ALL children should have access to a park that’s within a safe walking distance from their house.

Click on any of the Orange Markers on the map and you should see a short description and pictures of each of the parks. (Some of the pics are large and it might take a few seconds for them to load properly).

I hope you find it beneficial and that you discover some new parks / play areas that you didn’t know existed.

I think it’s so important to get our kids out and playing and sometimes a little change of scenery goes a long way to keeping them happy.

Please feel free to share this map, if you think anyone else will find it useful…

If I missed any parks / play areas out, please let me know and i’ll get them added.

If I am elected as a councillor, I’d like to sit down with both the cabinet member & director of Leisure and Well-being, go through the map and pictures, I created, with them and discuss each of our parks in detail to see where improvements can and should be made.
